Organisation of Equipment

The equipment I used was:

  • A Panasonic Lumix TZ62 camera which I borrowed from the Brigg Sixth Form Media Department.
  • A tripod which I also borrowed from the Media Department

Organisation of Costumes/Makeup/Props

I asked Sarah if she had certain items of clothing, which she did, so the model provided he own costume. This was a grey top, a grey jacket with a leather jacket over the top, then black ripped jeans and black converse.
The model did her makeup to my instruction, so the makeup was quite natural but with thick eyeliner and red lipstick.
There were no props involved with the photoshoot.

Organisation of Actors/Models

I sent a message over Facebook to my model, Sarah, saying:

'Hi Sarah, I was wondering if you be able to model for my music magazine. The photoshoot would be on the Friday 4th December from 11 till 11:30am at Brigg Park. If you are available, would you be able to wear black ripped jeans, a grey top and jacket with a leather jacket over the top. Thanks, Amy'

She replied saying she was willing to model for me,and that she was available and had that outfit.

Organisation of Equipment

For the photoshoot I used:

  • A Panasonic Lumix TZ62 camera, which I borrowed from the Media Department at Brigg Sixth Form.
  • A reflector I created using a sheet of cardboard and tinfoil.

Organisation of Costumes/Makeup/Props

For the costume, I asked the model to supply clothes I knew she owned which fit the genre of my music magazine, which were black jeans, a black floaty crop top, a black leather jacket and some black wedge heels.
I did her makeup as I wanted it to be similar to the first photoshoot she modelled for, using black and gold eyeshadow and winged eyeliner.
There were no props involved in the photoshoot.

Organisation of Actors/Models

I sent a text to Amy Johnson saying:

'Hi, I wanted to thank you for modelling for my music magazine, the photos will probably be used on the front cover and DPS. I was wondering if you would be able to help me out again by taking part in another photoshoot, this time around the bridge in Brigg. It would be on Friday 27th November from 1 till 2pm. If you are available, would you be able to wear a black floaty crop top, a leather jacket, black jeans and black wedge heels with straight hair. Thanks, Amy.'

She replied saying she was available and willing to participate in another photoshoot.

Best Photos from Photoshoot 1

I really like this photo, even though it breaks convention due to the model not looking into the camera. The lights are reflecting into her eyes, as well as highlighting the colour gradient of her hair. I also like the grey background contrasting with her skin and outfit. The shot is medium close-up with the model centred to the left, allowing blank space, which I really like.

This shot is a medium long, and I really like how the lights are positioned, making the leather jacket shine and contrast her jeans, and the light reflecting off of her face. As well as this, I also like the way her hair has fallen slightly over her face, and the lines of layers in her hair.

I like this medium long shot as the shoes and outfit is very reflective of pop rock. The background has a gradient on it, created by the lights, making the area around the model lighter, which I really like. I also like how the model is looking int the camera, and the pose she has, which is quite feisty.

This is an extreme closeup, which I like because of the way her eyes have reflected the lights, and has brought out the colour of her eyes. I also like the way her hair is spread out on the floor.

This is a long shot, with the model looking directly into camera, following conventions. I like this photo for multiple reasons, one is the way her hair is laid out, showing the way she has ombre. Another reason is that her pose shows her to be quite fun, with her legs up the wall, and is still maintaing the rock genre with her facial expressions. Also, the way she has crossed her legs over directly in the middle of the photo creates quite a nice symmetry in the photo, with her torso being diagonal to make the photo more fun.

This photo was created as my idea was that the model would be celebrating a new album that has recently come and and done well. The moving balloons and the still model have created a nice effect which I really like. The photo has been taken just as the balloons frame  the models face, and she is looking directly into camera with a slight smile which shows her happiness at the new album doing well.

This is a continuation of the celebratory theme, with the camera focusing on the models hand whilst blowing the confetti. I like how the models face is slightly blurry and the fact she is not looking at the camera, which breaks conventions but is quite interesting.

Organisation of Equipment

The equipment I was using:

  • Lights
  • White Backing Sheet
  • Panasonic Lumix TZ  62

This equipment was already at the Brigg Sixth Form Media Department, and so when we arrived at location we only had to set up and arrange the lighting for the photoshoot.

Organisation of Costumes/Makeup/Props

For the costume, I asked my model to wear black jeans, and then supplied a top that I already had, which was a black lacy crop top, as it fit with my genre.
I did the models make up as well, and used black and gold eyeshadow with winged eyeliner to give the photos a more grunge style.
I bought the props, confetti and balloons, from a card shop and brought them to the photoshoot.

Organisation of Actors/Models

I sent my model, Amy Jonhson a text message which said:

'Hi Amy, I was wondering if you would be able to be a model for the front cover of my music magazine for Media. The photoshoot would take place on Tuesday 20th October 6-7:30 pm and would take place at the Media Department at Brigg Sixth Form. If you are available, would you be able to wear black jeans and have straight hair, I will provide the rest of the outfit. Thanks, Amy.'

She then replied saying she was available and willing to take part in the photoshoot.

TA Research Answers

This is an example of the questionnaire I gave to my target audience, and a table of the results I gained.

  • From the first 2 results, I can see that my idea to have a story in my contents page about a band I like supporting gay rights would be a good idea. I wanted to use this idea as it brings in all sexualities in my target audience.
  • From the 3rd result, I can see that dressing my models in a grunge style for photo shoots would be a good idea, as most like this style.
  • From the 4th result, I can see that having my female models in strong poses and going against Mulvey's theory of the 'male gaze' would be a good idea.
  • From the 5th result, I can see that giving information about concerts and gigs, or putting a story about them on my contents page, would attract my audience as they like visiting them.
  • From the 6th result, I can see that an equal amount like pink to not liking pink, so I should include some in my magazine to attract a female audience, but not too much.
  • From the 7th result, I can see that most prefer blue colours to oranges, however it is quite equal so I have some space to do what I think will be more effective with the rest of the magazine.
  • From the 8th result, I can see that most people do not find bad language offensive, and so could include it in my DPS story if I believe it will fit with the context of the story.
  • From the 9th result, I can see that most people do not want information on outfits, however I could create a small story on the contents page on it for those who would like that knowledge.
  • From the 10th result, I can see that most people do want some sort of freebies to go with the magazine.
  • From the 11th result, I can see that people do not mind what kind of freebie is in a magazine, so I can decide if a CD or a download will go better with the magazine, and with the DPS.
  • From the 12th result, I can see that most people do not like adverts, so I will not include them in my magazine.
  • From the 13th result, I can see that most do like puns, so I could include them in some of the titles for the contents page, or in the DPS story.
  • From the 14th result, I can see that people do not like cheesy photos, so I will try not to include them, and if I do, there will be a maximum of 2.
  • From the 15th result, I can see that most people shop online, however there is quite a few people who do not. Due to this, I can put some links to the internet in the magazine, as well as links on social media to the magazine.
  • From the 16th result, I can see that there is an almost equal amount of people that like natural and dark makeup, so I will include some photos with more natural makeup and some with darker makeup in my photo shoots.
  • From the 17th result, I can see that competitions interest most people, so I could include a competition page on the contents page.
  • From the 18th and 19th result, I can see that around half the people I gave the questionnaires to would follow a magazine on some form of social media, so I think I will include some links or mention of the magazines social media page inside the magazine, probably on the contents page.
  • From the 20th result, I can see that most people would prefer a clearer front cover, and so I will make sure mine is not cluttered with too many stories, or competitions.
  • From the 21st and 22nd result, I can see that most people would prefer to have a more expensive magazine with better quality that comes out monthly, so I will create my magazine with quality in mind.
  • From the 23rd result, I can see that most people want a solo artist on the front cover, and so I will make sure that I have only one person on my front cover.
  • From the 24th result, I can see that there are equal amounts of people that want gossip and that don't in a magazine, so I will include some on the contents page, but not over 3 stories on it.
  • The 25th question was a bad question to ask as many people were not sure on what to answer so it didn't particularly gain a result other than name ideas, none of which particularly appeal to me.

How Analysis has Affected my Creativity

DPS Pages
I like the integration of the outfit and the text. I also really like the bold font of the headline, and how it sits in relation to the rest of the spread.I like the drop capital, and how much the white on black text stands out. I also like the colour scheme with gold words bringing some colour to the page.I like the drop capital, as well the integration of the image and text, especially the red coverline.
It has shown me aspects that I would like to include in my own double page spread, such as the multiple photos to break up text and the dark clothing on my models in photos.
It has shown me what I do not like and would change such as the amount of white space on the page.
Contents Pages
I really like the way they have photos on both pages, but with one page dedicated specifically to photos. I also like the way most the photos have the same colour scheme, which matches in with the rest of the contents.I like the larger amount of white space included in this contents, it shows the magazine to be of a higher quality. I also like the way they use the red to highlight anything important, as well as headlines.I don't like how crowded this contents page is, with the text and images almost battling for more space. However, I do like the effects they have put onto some of the photos, and might explore putting effects on my own photos.
Front Covers
I like the red, black and grey colour scheme however I don't like how busy the cover looks.I don't overly like the colour scheme as the pink clashes with the blue and grey however like how the cover looks with the slightly diagonal headline and the image overlapping the masthead.I really like the blue background reflecting summer mixed with the ice cream props.
I like the way it overlaps the masthead and breaks convention. I think I will use this on my magazine.
I also like the bright yellow used to highlight the headline.
I don't like how the band is stood, it makes the person on the far right seem like an add-on, and not part of the band.
